As you know Wavisavi, you will more enjoy Japan.

Do you know the meaning of “Akasaka Fukinuki,” the highly reputed Unagi(eel) restaurant?

Akasaka is a name of a place. Fukinuki in Kanji is written as “富貴貫.”  The first letter “富”means rich and full. The second letter “貴”means noble, and the third “貫”means sticking to one’s faith. With all three letters combined, it has a message that it is an establishment in Akasaka that commits to nobility.

Akasaka Fukinuki was established in 1923, a few years after the World War I ended. Since then, we use the same sauce by adding ingredients little by little over the years.  The sauce has been with us for almost 100 years.

By adding ingredients instead of making new sauce, we can deliver the same taste as it was back in 1923.  Imagine that you’re enjoying the Unagi dipped in the same sauce that your Grandfather or Grandmother, or the deceased greats have enjoyed.  You cannot find such unique experience elsewhere. Some may worry about the hygiene but do not worry, the unagi dipped in the sauce are fresh off the grill and have a high temperature, it kills the germs if any.  Feel and taste the tradition at Akasaka Fukinuki when you’re in town.
